Pom Pom is a 3 piece band from Seattle with a sound ranging from psychedelic rock to post rock to hip-hop. They aim to capture the energy of a live jam in every song by basing every musical decision off raw feeling. After three years of practicing and developing their style, they self-released their debut album, Slum Gum Atrocity, on February 15, 2019.
The bands songwriting process in inspired by aggressively avoiding settling on one sound. Their lyrical themes and genre-melding tied deeply to growing up in the 21st century and confronting the rapid collisions of socio-political landscapes, technologies, and art.
The owners of The Skylark Cafe & Club and Tug Inn had similar sentiments to share about the band, saying: “I see hundreds of bands each year, but you guys have something special.” After the release show the Slum Gum Atrocity, a fan remarked, “You guys were pregnant and you just gave birth to it on stage tonight.” Overall, many have expressed their excitement about their energy and fresh sound including Troy Nelson who said, “I couldn’t name just one band you sound like.”
